THE CAREER MUM

'Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.' Brene Brown

I am Amanda Newman. I have had a successful 20-year IT career in one of the largest companies in the world. During that time, I have had 4 children including identical twin boys. As a so called ‘Career Mum’ I want to help women embarking on or during their own journey through the many challenges, decisions and the rewards.
The Career Mum will provide a unique mentoring resource for you, but also a resource for companies looking to embrace, understand and develop their vast network of talented women.
If you want to join the discussion, please join the group https://facebook.com/groups/TheCareerMum. I look forward to hearing from you.

Pearls of Wisdom 23rd Jan 2018

Here’s what I’m loving this week,

  • Over on The Career Mum we have been discussing the menopause. I know I know I can hear many cringing and backing off the page. However this taboo effects many - women and inadvertently men. Jayne Harrison ...

My children attend the school that I boarded at from age 10 to 18. That means that every time I visit, or drive around the area I’m overcome with nostalgia. I just said to my daughter today, I used to run up those steps to catch many trains at the station, thinking wow...

The start of the year for many, particularly in a work context is time for Goal setting. As I’m currently trying to be more mindful, I’m spending time considering the ‘iron triangle of life’. Most of us will have learnt that we can cope with 2 out of the 3 sides of the...

Growing up in the 80’s, it was the decade of power suits, female independence, and women finally able to compete in a mans world. As we all know there was certainly still a glass ceiling but I believe the tide was starting to turn.

It has only just dawned on me that I...

January 5, 2018

So here we are, 5 days in to 2018! It had dawned on me that I am sparking and fizzing with excitement of every opportunity that has come my way. Somehow expecting to get my whole years goals completed in the next few weeks. Thinking about it I can’t possibly be the onl...

I have been reminded how important safety is and when disrespected how matters can change in a minute via an accident that’s happened due to the disregard of safety. So I’m begging you, January is good for new beginnings, consider these easy safety rules:

  • When walking d...

January 2, 2018

So, here we are, my first Pearls of Wisdom in 2018.

No room for huge, significant resolutions here, if we could all focus on the small things, things I consider to be the hygiene factors of good business - a bit like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs

  •  Make meetings effective...
