New Year, New Stress?

The start of the year for many, particularly in a work context is time for Goal setting. As I’m currently trying to be more mindful, I’m spending time considering the ‘iron triangle of life’. Most of us will have learnt that we can cope with 2 out of the 3 sides of the triangle being out of synch. However when the whole triangle collapses life can feel unmanageable. So now is the time to be proactive and take preventative action.

Some top tips that I’ve picked up,

Focus on keeping 2 of the 3 in balance. It’s virtually impossible to give all 3 sufficient attention so understand your priorities. These may change month on month. For example right now I’m focusing on relationships and health, by February it will likely be relationships and work - I then may not have as much time to do physical training.

Don’t take things for granted, if they are important to you, give them your time and focus.

On a long haul business trip many years ago I picked up a light read ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff’ by Richard Carlson. There are some great life tips to help you remember ‘what matters most’

Find ways to maintain perspective. I remind myself issues are ‘first world problems’ or push myself to learn about others with real issues.

A problem shared is a problem halved - find your tribe, your A team, your trusted buddies, whatever you want to call it. Be open and honest, talk, you will find things feel a lot better with some support behind you.

I’m always still learning, so do let me know what I’ve missed, either join the Facebook group The Career Mum full of like minded humans from all over the world, wanting to knowledge share, support and empower women to reach their potential. Or email me!
